On 6/3/2025, I, Officer McCune was assigned to marked unit East-2 working for the Somerville Police Department. At approximately 10:19 AM, I along with other multiple units were dispatched to the parking lot of Star Market located at 14 McGrath Highway for reports of an assault involving a knife. Upon my arrival, Officer G. Ferrara (East-4) was off with the suspect, who was later identified as Michael NORTON. Mr. NORTON was already placed in handcuffs for officer safety reasons based on the nature of the call. Officer D. Dottin was speaking with the victim who was later identified as XXXX. I first talked to Mr. Norton and asked him to describe the events that occurred before the arrival of the Somerville Police. Mr. NORTON told me that he was walking through the parking lot of Twin City after coming from Liquor Junction. Mr. NORTON stated that as he was walking a car pulled right in front of him almost hitting him. I clarified with Mr. NORTON that the vehicle did not hit him and he stated that it "came within 2 inches" of hitting him and he felt his life flash before his eyes. Mr. NORTON stated words were exchanged between him and XXXX who was the operator of the vehicle. While speaking with Mr. NORTON, he stated that during the exchange he did spit on Ms. XXXX vehicle. I asked Mr. NORTON if he brandished a knife at Ms. XXXX at any point during the dispute and he denied doing so. I would like to add that Officer Ferrara had located a small black pocket knife on Mr. NORTON's person.

I then spoke with Ms. XXXX and asked for her side of the story. Ms. XXXX stated that she was cutting through the parking lot of Twin City coming from Cambridge. At one point Ms. XXXX stated that while driving through the parking lot, her view of her became blocked by other cars and that is when Mr. NORTON appeared from out of a blind spot causing her to stop just before hitting him. Ms. XXXX stated that Mr. NORTON began to scream and swear at her as she was just trying to explain that she wasn't able to fully see because of the other cars. Ms. XXXX then told me while Mr. NORTON was screaming at her, he also spit at her vehicle and she stated that she did feel some fluid hit her in the face. Ms. XXXX stated that she had all the windows rolled down in her vehicle as well as her sunroof open. After Ms. XXXX was spit on she stated that she exited her vehicle and confronted Mr. NORTON and that is when he pulled out a pocket knife and brandished it toward her while saying " Get the fuck away from me". I asked Ms. XXXX if she felt in fear when Mr. NORTON brandished the knife towards her and she stated that she did. I asked her if she could describe the pocket knife and she stated all she remembered was that it was "black". Ms. XXXX was asked if she wanted any medical treatment and she declined.

I was then approached by a male later identified as XXXX who stated that he witnessed the ending of the incident. Mr. XXXX told me that he did witness Mr. NORTON spit on Ms. XXXX but did not see Mr. NORTON brandish the knife toward Ms. XXXX. I then returned to speak with Mr. NORTON one last time and asked him if he brandished a knife toward Ms. XXXX and he again denied doing so.

Based on the facts and circumstances presented to me, Mr. NORTON was placed under arrest for the following charges:

     265/15B/A     ASSAULT W/DANGEROUS WEAPON (Black Pocket Knife) c265 S15B

     265/13A/B     A&B (Spitting) c265 S13A
