On Thursday, September 4, 2025, I, Officer Romero was assigned marked unit East 2 with Officer Alex Lorenti. At approximately 11:21 AM, we were dispatched to 180 Somerville Ave, (Target), for a report of shoplifting in progress. Officer Patrick Canty, Officer Victor Souza, East 3, and Sgt. Van Nostrand, (S9) responded as back up.

Upon arrival we were met by Target's loss prevention, Ms. XXXX. She stated that she had a shoplifter, later identified as Ms. Genetta Bennett in the office. XXXX went on to say that Bennett attempted to walk out the store, passing all forms of payment, with a loaded shopping cart that she had not paid for. XXXX informed me that Bennett had shoplifted before from the same location.

Past incidents were:

August 17, 2025, two different times of the day and August 30, 2025. All items totaled $922.96. Target has their own complaint out for those past dates.

XXXX then stated to me that Bennett had stolen $839.55 worth the products today. I asked XXXX what kind of items were taken, to which she stated all baby clothing and other types of baby essentials.

I then spoke with Bennett. I asked her what had occurred prior to my arrival. Bennett stated that she hasn't been working and that she wanted things for her kids.

Based on the facts, Bennett was placed under arrest (double locked.) She was charged with one count of c.266/ s.30 Larceny under.Bennett was trespassed from the Target.

Transport unit 200, operated by Officer Robert Taylor, was requested to the scene to transport Bennett to Somerville Police Headquarters for booking. Booking was completed by Lt. Capasso in the usual manner.
