On 11/20/2025 while in full uniform I was assigned to marked unit East-1, working the First Half Shift from 4PM-12AM. At approximately 4:43PM I was dispatched to 300 Artisan Way (Nike) for a shoplifting. Officer Fusco (East-4) responded as back up. Dispatch notified units that the suspect had left the store, and was now travelling towards Earl's Kitchen. The reporting party Mr. XXXX described the suspect as a white male wearing a beanie, black jacket with a green sweater underneath, and grey sweatpants.

I searched the surrounding area, and found a male matching the exact description given on Grand Union Blvd which is in close proximity to Nike.  The male was identified as Mr. Clifford FLYNN. I explained to FLYNN the reasoning for the stop. FLYNN stated that he didn't do anything wrong, and that he had been in Nike for a brief amount of time, but left the store. As I was speaking to FLYNN, Mr. XXXX who works for Nike walked over to our location, and confirmed that this was the male that he had witnessed shoplifting merchandise. Mr. XXXX stated that observed FLYNN conceal a pair of Nike Air Max Shoes upon his person, and proceed to walk out of the store past all points of payment. FLYNN was wearing a puffy black jacket. As I observed FLYNN'S jacket, I noticed that the side pockets were bulging as if there were large items stuffed inside of it. I asked FLYNN if he had taken anything from NIKE to which he denied.

I then conducted a search of FLYNN'S person, and located 2 Nike Air Max shoes, stuffed inside of the lining of his jacket. I then advised FLYNN that he was being placed under arrest, and he was placed into custody without incident. FLYNN was then read his Miranda Warnings by Officer Fusco from a card which he keeps on his person to which he stated he understood. FLYNN then repeatedly stated that he was sorry, and that he was going to tell officers that he had taken the shoes, beacuse he knew that we were going to find them. FLYNN stated that he did not take the shoes for himself, and that they were for his girlfirend.

Unit 200, operated by Officer Barton was requested. FLYNN was transported back to Somerville Police Headquarters and booked by Lieutenant VIVOLO.

FLYNN will be charged with the following:

266/30A/A  SHOPLIFTING BY ASPORTATION c266 S30A

Respectfully,

Officer Thompson #363
