On Monday, May 19, 2025, I, Officer Jorge Morel, was working patrol during my assigned 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM shift in the East Somerville District, in full uniform. At approximately 9:21 PM, I responded to 153 Perkins Street for a report of an injured person. Officer Thompson (E-4) responded as well. While en route, dispatch advised that the reporting party was bleeding from the hand. Officers Campers and Ribeiro also responded.
Upon arrival, I observed a Hispanic male, later identified as XXXX, waving me down. As I exited my cruiser and approached him, I observed that he was extremely unsteady on his feet and holding an open bottle of Modelo containing an alcoholic beverage. I also observed heavy bleeding from the top of his hand. I asked what had occurred, and Mr. XXXX, whose speech was slurred, stated that "Noel" stabbed him with a knife in the kitchen. When asked where Noel was, he pointed toward the residence's stairs and mumbled. I asked if Noel still had the knife, and Mr. XXXX stated that it was in the kitchen.
Officer Thompson and I proceeded up the stairs to the third floor. I observed droplets of blood throughout the stairwell and smears on the walls. Upon reaching the third floor, I attempted to open the door, but it was locked. Officer Thompson knocked, and a male party answered with his hands raised. I asked if he was Noe, and he confirmed. He was later identified as Noe Perez Contreras.
Mr. Contreras attempted to reach into his left pants pocket, at which point I verbally commanded him not to reach. He complied and raised his hands again. Mr. Contreras was guided to a nearby wall, turned around, and frisked for weapons, which yielded negative results. I could hear other voices inside the apartment, and I asked Mr. Contreras if there was a knife inside. He responded that he wished to speak with a lawyer. At that point, he was placed in handcuffs and placed under arrest.
Officer Thompson escorted Mr. Contreras downstairs, where Officer Clancy, operating Prisoner Transport Unit #200, transported him to the Somerville Police Station, where Shift Commander Sgt. Berrouet booked him.
I spoke with XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX inside the apartment. All parties appeared intoxicated, and their speech was slurred. I observed numerous empty Modelo bottles scattered around the living room. Officers also observed bloodstains on the living room floor and hallway, which appeared to have been poorly cleaned, as blood remained faintly visible. I would like to note that the visible blood at the scene did not appear consistent with the amount of blood Mr. XXXX lost.
When asked what happened, Ms. XXXX provided an incomplete and disjointed account. She repeatedly approached Mr. XXXX, saying, "tú sabes, tú sabes," which translates to "you know" in Spanish. Mr. XXXX and Mr. XXXX gave similar statements. According to them, Mr. XXXX and Mr. Contreras argued over a female, whose identity they would not disclose. The argument escalated, and a physical altercation occurred in the kitchen. Mr. XXXX reported that he observed Mr. XXXX exit the kitchen with a bloody hand. He would not elaborate on the events that followed and stated he did not know what object Mr. Contreras used to injure Mr. XXXX. The knife was not located in the house.
Mr. XXXX was treated by Somerville Fire Department and EMS Cataldo ambulance and trasported to Cambrdige Hospital to seek further treatment.
I conducted a follow-up at Cambridge Hospital, where Mr. XXXX appeared more sober. I observed bloodstains on his clothing and sneakers.
Respectfully submitted,
Officer Jorge Morel
